How to protect heat exchanger from scale deposits

How to protect a plate heat exchanger against scale?

Cleaning of a plate heat exchanger is not so complicated, but it may be completely avoided. How to supply ultrasound to each plate, if they are separated from one another by rubber spacers? This problem is solved as follows: in plate heat exchangers ultrasound is supplied directly to the water. For this purpose, the ultrasound transducer is equipped with a specific tip for radiating into water and is tied-in into heated water headers. The ultrasonic field excited in water also excites vibrations in plates and does not allow scale deposits to form on them.

To protect plate heat exchangers against scale, the following devices are used:

  • «Acoustic-T1 Pl» for heat exchangers with the heat exchange surface area below 10 m2
  • «Acoustic-T2 Pl» for heat exchangers with the heat exchange surface area from 10 to 60 m2
  • «Acoustic-T4 Pl» for heat exchangers with the heat exchange surface area over 60 m2

Order «Acoustic-T» for plate heat exchangers

Contrary to water-to-water shell-and-tube heaters, where the presence of 1 mm thick scale layer prior to installation of the devices against scale is assumed permissible, pure chemical cleaning of plate heat exchangers is mandatory!
Otherwise, after antiscale devices have been installed, blockage of water supply canals by fragments of chipped scale is possible.

How to protect a shell-and-tube heat exchanger against scale?

For water-to-water preheaters one transducer is installed on each section, the output water temperature of which exceeds 45°C.
If carbonate hardness of heated water exceeds 5,000 mkg-eq/litre , 2 transducers of «Acoustic-T» series are installed on each section, the output water temperature of which exceeds 40°C.

For steam-water heaters the following devices are used:

  • «Acoustic-T» for heat exchangers with the heat exchanging surface area below 10 m2 (1 transducer per section)
  • «Acoustic-T2» for heat exchangers with the heat exchanging surface area from 10 to 20 m2 (2 transducers per section)
  • «Acoustic-T4» for heat exchangers with the heat exchanging surface area from 20 to 50 m2 (4 transducers per section)
  • «Acoustic-T4» x 2 2 for heat exchangers with the heat exchanging surface area over 50 m2 (8 transducers per section)
